Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran confirmed that one engine on the crashed AI171 Dreamliner was new, installed in March 2025, while the other wasn’t due for servicing until December. The crash, which killed at least 270 people, occurred moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad. Chandrasekaran urged patience until black box data is fully analyzed. Experts say engine age isn’t directly linked to condition, especially with Genx-1B engines. Meanwhile, Air India has cut 15% of international flights until mid-July amid safety reviews. Inspections of 26 Boeing 787s are complete. The tragedy comes as Air India pushes to modernize under Tata ownership. (PC: Getty Images)
