“Namaskar, my dear countrymen! What a ride!” said Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla from orbit, marking India’s return to human spaceflight after 41 years. Speaking aboard the Dragon spacecraft Endurance, Shukla added, “We are revolving around the Earth at 7.5 km/sec. The Tiranga embossed on my shoulders tells me I am with all of you.” His historic message—“Jai Hind, Jai Bharat”—came after the Axiom-4 launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. “This isn’t just a trip to the ISS, it’s the start of India’s Human Space Programme,” he declared. Shukla flies alongside astronauts from the US, Poland, and Hungary. Docking is expected tomorrow.
