India ended Day 1 of the second Test at Edgbaston on 310-5, thanks to a gritty unbeaten 114 from captain Shubman Gill. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 87 while Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse picked up two and one wickets respectively. England, leading the five-match series 1-0, bowled with discipline, but Gill’s patience and a 99-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja steadied India after quick wickets post-tea. Jasprit Bumrah was rested as India made three changes. Despite a flat pitch, England remain confident of batting big. Former captain Michael Vaughan said, “India need 450 to win. They’re doing what’s required so far.” (PC: BCCI)
