On July 10, 2025, the original Hermès Birkin bag owned by late singer-actress Jane Birkin was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in Paris for €7 million (around $7.6 million). This was the very first Birkin bag ever created in 1984, originally sketched on an airplane sickness bag during Birkin’s conversation with Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas. Featuring her initials, custom shoulder strap, and personal modifications like a nail clipper attachment, the bag is now officially the most expensive handbag ever sold at auction, surpassing previous luxury fashion records and purchased by an anonymous private collector.
