Bengaluru’s Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has floated a ‘Kukkir Tihar’ dog‑feeding tender to supply 367 g of chicken rice daily to 5,000 street dogs, 500 in each of eight zones for Rs 22 per animal. The one‑year contract, to be awarded through Karnataka’s public procurement portal using Least‑Cost Selection, will cost Rs 2.88 crore annually, with Rs 36 lakh earmarked per zone; vendors must be FSSAI‑registered, build off‑site kitchens, meet hygiene norms, and fund water, power, and distribution. Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram called street feeding a “huge health and safety hazard”, urged relocation to shelters, and proposed a national task force, noting India’s 6.2 crore strays and 36 percent of global rabies deaths. He added ABC Rules 2023 remain poorly implemented across India. (PC: Down to earth & India Today)
