Bangladesh’s interim government has revoked a 16-year-old directive from the Sheikh Hasina era that mandated addressing senior female officials, including Hasina herself, as “Sir.” The rule, deemed socially and institutionally inappropriate, drew widespread criticism for undermining gender norms. The Advisory Council, led by Chief Adviser Yunus, announced the repeal and formed a panel to recommend respectful, gender-sensitive titles. The committee, co-led by advisers Dr M Fouzul Kabir Khan and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, will submit its findings within a month. Alongside this move, the council is reviewing other outdated protocol rules to align administrative conduct with modern societal values and promote inclusive governance. (PC: The Independent)
