Controversy erupted on Day 2 of the India vs England 3rd Test at Lord's after India captain Shubman Gill and bowler Mohammed Siraj confronted umpires over the poor quality of the Dukes ball. The ball, just 10 overs old, failed the hoop test and was replaced, but Gill expressed anger, even snatching the replacement from the umpire. "This is 10-overs old ball? Seriously?" Siraj was heard saying. Sunil Gavaskar, in commentary, supported India's claim, calling the ball more like “20-overs old.” Vice-captain Rishabh Pant earlier criticised the ball’s quality, calling it “a big problem” affecting the fairness of the game.
