Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on Monday citing health reasons. The 74-year-old, who has served as Vice President since 2022, stepped down after chairing the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament as Rajya Sabha Chairman. His resignation takes effect immediately under Article 67(a) of the Constitution. In his letter, Dhankhar thanked President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their support, calling his working relationship with them “soothing and wonderful.” He said the decision was made to prioritize his health and follow medical advice.
