Thailand has declared martial law in eight districts bordering Cambodia after intense artillery exchanges erupted on Friday. Seven districts in Chanthaburi and one in Trat are now under military control. Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai warned the conflict could escalate into war, stressing Thailand’s right to defend its sovereignty. Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet blamed Bangkok for breaching a Malaysia-brokered truce. The deadly clashes have killed at least 15 and injured dozens, forcing over 130,000 Thai civilians to evacuate. The UN Security Council plans an emergency meeting, while the US, China, and Malaysia have offered to mediate the growing crisis. (PC: HT)
