Venugopal claimed the flight narrowly avoided tragedy when another aircraft was reportedly on the runway during its first landing attempt, forcing the pilot to pull up. Air India refuted the claim, stating the go-around was instructed by Chennai ATC due to weather and debris, not runway intrusion. The DGCA confirmed the diversion was precautionary.
