Chisoti Cloudburst Tragesy: Pilgrims Swept Away in Sudden Flash Flood

On August 14, 2025, a devastating cloudburst struck Chisoti (Chashoti) in Kishtwar district, Jammu & Kashmir, along the Machail Mata pilgrimage route, causing a sudden flash flood in the early afternoon . The torrent overwhelmed a community kitchen, security outpost, vehicles, and homes, tragically killing at least 60 pilgrims, including two CISF personnel, while many remain missing . Eyewitnesses described chaos as chanting pilgrims were suddenly engulfed by slush, boulders, and uprooted trees across a small area .
