The Congress party criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed three-hour visit to Manipur on September 13. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “This is actually an insult to the people of the state who have waited for him for 29 long and agonising months.” He called the trip a “non-visit,” accusing Modi of being insensitive to the suffering caused by ethnic violence. More than 260 people have died and thousands were displaced since clashes between Meiteis and Kukis began in May 2023. This will be Modi’s first trip to Manipur since the violence, despite repeated demands from the Opposition. (PC: PMO)
