Kulman Ghising, the former CEO of Nepal Electricity Authority, has emerged as the frontrunner for interim prime minister after KP Sharma Oli’s resignation. Ghising, credited with ending years of daily power cuts, is widely respected across Nepal. A graduate in electrical engineering from Jamshedpur, India, he later earned a master’s degree from Tribhuvan University. He rose through the ranks at NEA and became a household name in 2016 for fixing Nepal’s load-shedding crisis. Ghising was sacked in March 2025, sparking backlash. Protesters, mainly Gen Z, now see him as a capable leader to guide Nepal through political unrest. (PC: HT)
