The Supreme Court on Friday said firecracker bans should apply across India, not just Delhi-NCR. Chief Justice Bhushan R Gavai asked why only Delhi should get pollution-free air while other cities suffer. The court was hearing pleas from firecracker traders who said their business and licenses were being unfairly hit. Traders argued even green crackers were not considered by the Centre and NEERI. The bench said rules should not only affect the poor and workers. The matter will be heard again on September 22. The Centre must file a report on green cracker research before the next hearing.
