Brazil’s ex-president Jair Bolsonaro has been sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison for plotting a coup. A Supreme Court panel convicted him by a 4-1 vote, saying he led a criminal group to stop Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office in 2023. The plan allegedly included the assassination of Lula, his deputy, and a judge. Bolsonaro, 70, denies the charges and says he is a victim of political persecution. Known as the “Trump of the Tropics,” he remains under house arrest. Bolsonaro can still appeal the ruling, but his political future looks uncertain. (PC: NDTV)
