A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Saturday at 10 km depth, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences. This follows July's devastating 8.7 magnitude quake in the same region that triggered Pacific-wide tsunami alerts across Hawaii, Alaska, Japan, and Russia's Far East. The July earthquake subsequently caused the eruption of Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Eurasia's tallest and most active volcano at 4,750 meters. Satellite imagery captured lava flows while geologists reported explosive eruptions and aftershocks. Tourist advisories were issued for the dangerous volcanic area. The Kamchatka Peninsula, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, remains highly seismically active due to tectonic plate movements, with continued monitoring essential for regional safety.
