Kolkata is shining at night thanks to the Kolkata Restorers, a citizens’ group led by Mudar Patherya. In just 21 months, they have illuminated 92 heritage buildings, temples, churches, and markets across the city. The project began with lighting a single dome but soon expanded to landmarks like Raj Bhavan, the Geological Survey of India, and Hogg Market. Lighting experts use layered LEDs to highlight details, while restorers repair damaged structures. Even century-old tower clocks are being fixed by fourth-generation clock repairer Swapan Dutta. Patherya now aims to light 200 buildings, making Kolkata glow like Paris at night. (PC: BBC)
