Air India Crash: Families Sue Boeing & Honeywell Over Faulty Fuel Switches

Brief by Shorts91 Newsdesk / 12:43pm on 18 Sep 2025,Thursday India

The families of four passengers killed in the June 12 Air India Flight AI-171 crash have filed a lawsuit in Delaware against Boeing and Honeywell, alleging a defective fuel cutoff switch caused the accident. The Dreamliner 787 crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad for London, killing 260 people. Plaintiffs claim the switches, installed just behind the thrust levers, could be inadvertently activated; they reference a 2018 FAA advisory warning about disengaged locking mechanisms, which was advisory, not mandatory. According to preliminary reports, Air India had not conducted the recommended inspections before the flight. Boeing declined comment; no comment yet from Honeywell. (PC: PTI)
