Kolkata is still struggling after record rainfall killed 11 people and left the city flooded before Durga Puja. Most deaths were caused by electrocution on waterlogged streets. Authorities are pumping out water, but high tides in the Hooghly river slowed drainage efforts. Several Durga Puja pandals remain damaged, raising concerns ahead of the festival. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced ₹5 lakh compensation for victims’ families and opened a control room. Power supply has been partially restored in affected areas.
