A protest in Leh, Ladakh, demanding statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule turned violent on Wednesday. At least 4 people were killed and over 50 injured, officials said. Police used teargas and batons after some protestors threw stones. Demonstrators also set fire to a BJP office and clashed with security forces. Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who ended a 15-day hunger strike, appealed for peace. Authorities imposed restrictions under Section 163 and cancelled the Ladakh Festival.
