A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to intensify into a depression, likely making landfall near the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh coast on September 27. Authorities in Odisha have placed 18 districts on high alert, deploying disaster response teams, canceling leaves for officials, and preparing rescue operations. The IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in coastal and southern districts. Bengal, including Kolkata, is also bracing for rain spells, raising concerns of waterlogging and disruptions during ongoing Durga Puja preparations.
