Opposition leaders have strongly criticized the Narendra Modi-led government following the arrest of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on September 26, 2025. Wangchuk was detained just before a scheduled press conference in Leh, two days after violent protests erupted in the region. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal likened the government's actions to historical figures associated with tyranny, stating, "Raavan's end also came. Kansa's end also came. Hitler's and Mussolini's ends also came." Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed the arrest "unfortunate," accusing the Centre of backtracking on promises made to Ladakh's people. (PC: PTI)
