Leh Under Curfew as 80 Injured, 44 Arrested, Wangchuk’s Role Under Probe

On September 24, Leh witnessed unprecedented violence as nearly 7,000 people clashed with security forces, resulting in four deaths and over 80 injuries. DGP SD Singh Jamwal confirmed Sonam Wangchuk’s detention under the NSA, citing his alleged role in derailing talks on Ladakh’s statehood and Sixth Schedule demands. Wangchuk’s purported Pakistan links and foreign funding are under investigation, with a Pakistan Intelligence Operative detained. Police vehicles were torched, CRPF jawans critically injured, and three women officers narrowly escaped arson. Forty-four arrests have been made, including key instigators. The BJP office was also attacked. Curfew continues in Leh, with intensified patrolling and raids underway.
