Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, chief of Ittehad-e-Millat Council, was arrested Saturday after his call for protests supporting the 'I Love Muhammad' campaign sparked violent clashes in Bareilly. Eight people were arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody. Police registered 10 FIRs, with seven naming Raza as accused. The controversy originated when Kanpur police filed cases against 24 people for displaying 'I Love Muhammad' boards during September 4 Eid processions, which Hindu groups opposed. Violence erupted after Friday prayers when protesters gathered outside mosques and threw stones at police. Internet services were suspended for 48 hours as a precautionary measure. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warned against disrupting law and order, while opposition leaders criticized police action.
