Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday. The new airport is expected to reduce the pressure on the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Located near Panvel, the project is a major boost for Mumbai’s air traffic capacity and regional economy. The airport will handle 20 million passengers annually in its first phase. Officials said more phases will be completed by 2032, making it one of India’s largest airports. Modi called it a “symbol of New India’s speed and scale.” Domestic flights will start early next year after final trials. (PC: X)
