The owner of Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharma has been detained after over 20 children died from consuming contaminated Coldrif syrup. Madhya Pradesh police arrested Ranganathan, the company’s owner, in Chennai after a Rs 20,000 reward was announced for his capture. The syrup, used for cold and cough in children, was found to contain diethylene glycol, a toxic chemical. Deaths have been reported in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. India’s top drug regulator admitted major lapses in drug manufacturing, saying many factories failed to properly test raw materials and ingredients before production. (PC: NDTV)
