A widespread outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Monday disrupted major websites and apps across the globe, including Snapchat, Robinhood, Coinbase, and Perplexity AI. The issue stemmed from AWS’s US-EAST-1 region, one of its largest data centres, causing high “error rates and latencies.” Over 6.5 million outage reports were recorded worldwide, affecting more than 1,000 companies. Some NHS services in the UK also faced limited disruption. Amazon said systems are gradually recovering, with EC2 instance launches resuming in several zones. AWS provides vital cloud infrastructure for global businesses, governments, and digital platforms. (PC: HT)
