US President Donald Trump announced sanctions on Russia’s two biggest oil firms, Rosneft and Lukoil, for supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine. This marks Trump’s first Ukraine-related sanctions in his second term. The move came after Trump claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi told him during a recent call that India will “not buy much oil” from Russia. Indian officials have not confirmed the call or Trump’s claim. The US has also imposed high tariffs on India over its Russian oil imports.
