Five Pakistani soldiers and 25 militants were killed in heavy fighting along the Afghan border, Pakistan’s army said on Sunday. The clashes took place in Kurram and North Waziristan after militants tried to cross from Afghanistan. Talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan are underway in Istanbul to restore peace after earlier violence. Pakistan’s defence minister warned that failure to reach an agreement could lead to “open war.” The Taliban government has not replied to the claims but denies backing militants.
