Egypt's Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the world's largest archaeological museum, officially opened near Giza's pyramids, displaying 100,000 artifacts spanning seven millennia. The $1.2 billion, 500,000-square-meter complex showcases Tutankhamun's complete tomb contents over 5,500 pieces together for the first time since Howard Carter's 1922 discovery, including the gold mask, throne, and chariots. Other highlights include Khufu's 4,500-year-old funerary boat, Ramesses II's 11-meter statue, and a 16-meter suspended obelisk. The museum, expected to attract 8 million annual visitors, was proposed in 1992 but delayed by financial crises, the 2011 Arab Spring, COVID-19, and regional conflicts. Egyptologists are demanding the return of the Rosetta Stone, Dendera Zodiac, and Nefertiti bust from British, French, and German museums.
