Shafali Verma was named Player of the Match and Deepti Sharma won Player of the Tournament as India lifted their first Women’s World Cup. Shafali scored a brilliant 87 and took two wickets in the final against South Africa. She said, “God sent me here to do something nice, and I’m happy I could make my team win.” Shafali also thanked her parents, teammates, and Sachin Tendulkar for their support. Deepti, who delivered consistent all-round performances throughout the tournament, played a key role in India’s historic 52-run victory and was honoured for her brilliant campaign. (PC: X)
