8 people died and several were injured after a passenger train collided with a goods train near Bilaspur station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. The Railways said a probe has been ordered by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. A preliminary report suggests the loco pilot may have missed a red signal, known as “signal passed at danger.” The crash happened around 4 pm when the MEMU passenger train from Gevra hit a goods train from behind. Rescue teams reached the site quickly. The Railways announced ₹10 lakh compensation for families of the dead and ₹5 lakh for the seriously injured. (PC: PTI)
