The Supreme Court of India has taken suo motu notice of the “alarming rise of dog-bite incidents” and ordered all educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stands and railway stations to be properly fenced to prevent stray-dog entry. Local bodies are tasked with removing stray dogs from these premises, vaccinating and sterilising them in accordance with the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2025, and not releasing them back at the same spot. States’ Chief Secretaries have been asked to ensure compliance, or face personal consequences. (PC: X)
