The Supreme Court of India will hear on November 11 a batch of petitions challenging the Election Commission’s nationwide “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has argued that the SIR exercise in Tamil Nadu is arbitrary, unconstitutional, and violates fundamental rights under Articles 14, 19, and 21. The petition contends that the revision could enable manipulation of voter data ahead of elections. The Supreme Court agreed to take up the matter urgently, noting that the SIR process is already underway in several states across India. (PC: PTI)
