More than one million people have been evacuated in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Fung-wong, known locally as Uwan, moves closer to land. At least two people have died as strong winds and heavy rain hit the eastern islands. The storm is expected to make landfall in Aurora province on Sunday night with winds up to 230km/h. Schools, offices, and flights across Luzon, including Manila, have been suspended. Officials warned people to follow evacuation orders to avoid last-minute rescues. The typhoon comes just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi killed 224 people, adding pressure to the country’s disaster response system. (PC: AP, Shutterstock)
