The BJP has chosen first-time MLA Bhajan Lal Sharma as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan. A three-member BJP central observer team led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Jaipur to oversee the legislature party meeting where Sharma was elected CM. Sharma won from the Sanganer constituency in the recent state elections where the BJP secured a thumping majority with 115 seats. Other names speculated for the post included former CMs Vasundhara Raje and Kirori Lal Meena, but the party sprang a surprise by picking the relatively low-profile Sharma to lead the government.
