The UK is facing a very cold week with Met Office warnings for snow and ice across Scotland and northern England. Yellow and amber cold-health alerts are also in place for northern England and the Midlands until Saturday. Arctic winds are pulling in much colder air, with temperatures falling well below average. Some areas in Scotland may see up to 20cm of snow, and travel disruption is possible on higher routes. Ice will be a major hazard overnight. Thursday night is expected to be the coldest, with temperatures dropping to -12C in rural Scotland. Conditions may ease slightly by the weekend. (PC: BBC)
