A tiger has settled in Gujarat's Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary after 30 years of extinction, raising revival hopes. Forest officials confirmed the big cat, first recorded on CCTV in February, has remained in Dahod district for nine months, establishing permanent residence. State Forest Minister Arjun Modhwadia declared Gujarat now hosts three big cats including lion, leopard, and tiger. The department relocated herbivores to ensure adequate prey base and has informed the National Tiger Conservation Authority for guidance. Tigers went extinct in Gujarat in 1989. A previous 2019 sighting in Lunawada tehsil ended tragically when the tiger's carcass was discovered after two weeks, dashing earlier revival hopes.
