A US Republican lawmaker has introduced a bill in Congress to end the H-1B visa programme, saying it hurts American workers. The proposal was filed by Florida Representative Greg Steube and is called the Ending Exploitative Imported Labour Exemptions (EXILE) Act. It seeks to remove the H-1B visa route from current law. Steube said the system is misused by companies to hire cheaper foreign labour. He said it “undermines our values and national interests.” The H-1B visa allows US firms to hire skilled foreign professionals and is widely used by Indian workers.
