12 Dead in Pakistan Protests After Khamenei’s Killing; US Consulate and UN Office Attacked

Violent protests broke out across Pakistan after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli strikes. At least 12 people were reported dead and over 60 injured in clashes near the US Consulate in Karachi. Protesters set parts of the compound on fire. In Skardu, a United Nations office was burned. Demonstrations also spread to Lahore and Peshawar. Police used tear gas to control crowds. The US Embassy advised its citizens to avoid protest areas. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned attacks on diplomatic sites and called them a violation of international law. His Russia visit was postponed. (PC: X)
