Malaysia has secured permission for its vessels to travel through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz following diplomatic talks with Iran and other regional leaders. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Iranian authorities agreed to allow Malaysian ships safe passage and facilitated the release of detained Malaysian oil tankers and their crews. The breakthrough comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where Iran had restricted maritime movement in response to US-Israel strikes, disrupting global oil supply routes. The strait, which handles around 20% of the world’s oil trade, is critical for Malaysia as nearly half of its oil imports pass through it. Despite this progress, shipping remains uncertain, with selective access, ongoing risks, and continued geopolitical instability affecting global energy markets. (PC: AFP)
