India has provided emergency fuel assistance to Sri Lanka, delivering 38,000 metric tonnes of petroleum to help tackle a worsening energy crisis triggered by disruptions in West Asia. The shipment, comprising 20,000 tonnes of diesel and 18,000 tonnes of petrol, arrived in Colombo on March 28. The crisis emerged after Sri Lanka’s regular suppliers from the Middle East and Singapore failed to deliver due to conflict-related disruptions and shipping constraints. Following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, India extended support through Lanka IOC to maintain fuel supply continuity. Sri Lanka expressed gratitude, highlighting India’s swift response amid regional energy instability.
