A 39-year-old man has died following a shark attack near Kennedy Shoal in the Great Barrier Reef region, about 50 km off the Queensland coast between Cairns and Townsville. The incident occurred around midday on Sunday when emergency services were alerted after reports that the man, reportedly fishing or diving with others, had been seriously injured at sea. He was transported by boat to the Hull River boat ramp near Tully, where paramedics attempted to treat him, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Police have described the death as sudden and non-suspicious, with a report being prepared for the coroner. The shark species involved is still unknown. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. (PC: PA)
