Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee on Sunday alleged that he was the target of an "attempt to murder" after being injured during a confrontation near Chanditala Police Station in West Bengal's Hooghly district. Banerjee claimed that a group of BJP supporters threw a stone that struck his head while he was on his way to submit a memorandum to police. The TMC leader alleged that police failed to intervene and accused BJP leaders of creating a hostile atmosphere. A video from the scene showed Banerjee holding his head before collapsing. The incident comes a day after TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked with stones and eggs in Sonarpur.
