India and the United States have finalised nearly all elements of the first phase of their proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), with only minor legal details remaining, according to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Describing negotiations as “99% complete,” Goyal said discussions are focused on technical aspects and adjustments linked to changes in US tariff policies. The agreement’s signing is expected after clarity emerges on Washington’s post-tariff framework following legal challenges to measures introduced by President Donald Trump. The deal aims to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. The United States remains India’s largest export destination, while bilateral trade between the partners reached approximately $140 billion.
