India’s Ministry of External Affairs said action will be taken against any foreign national found residing illegally in the country, as the 57th Director General-level border coordination conference between the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh began in New Delhi. The three-day meeting is focused on border security, illegal immigration, trans-border crime, border fencing and infrastructure issues. Discussions may also cover reports of people in “no-man’s-land”. The talks come amid heightened attention on illegal immigration and deportations along the India-Bangladesh border. Other agenda items include preventing assaults on personnel and civilians, curbing cross-border crime, tackling fence breaches, and strengthening confidence-building measures. (PC: PTI)
