The FIFA World Cup 2026 officially kicked off at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City with a star-studded opening ceremony featuring Shakira, J Balvin, Alejandro Fernández, Andrea Bocelli, EJAE and other performers. Before the opening match between hosts Mexico and South Africa, Tyla performed the South African national anthem, while Alejandro Fernández delivered Mexico’s national anthem in front of a packed stadium. Andrea Bocelli and EJAE also performed the tournament’s official anthem, “DNA.” Moments after kickoff, Mexico made history by scoring the first goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup through Julián Quiñones, giving the host nation an early lead in the tournament’s opening fixture.
