An Indian seafarer, 35-year-old Nishanth Uirthanathan from Tamil Nadu, died due to medical complications while serving as Second Officer aboard MT Celestial, currently docked at Duqm Port in Oman. The Indian Embassy in Muscat confirmed the death and said it is coordinating with the ship management company and relevant authorities to ensure the earliest repatriation of his mortal remains to India. According to the Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI), Uirthanathan fell ill on June 8 and died on June 11 after alleged delays in securing medical treatment and evacuation. FSUI has demanded an inquiry, while authorities continue completing formalities required for transporting the body home.
