Canada’s Manitoba province has ended the Career Employment Pathway (CEP), a popular route that helped international students gain permanent residency after graduation. The change took effect immediately and is expected to affect many Indian students. Under the new system, graduates must have at least six months of continuous work experience in Manitoba and a long-term full-time job offer to qualify for permanent residency. Officials said the move aims to better match immigration with labour market needs. Manitoba added that international graduates remain a priority, but work experience and employment will now play a bigger role in immigration decisions.
