Eight people were killed when a US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California’s Mojave Desert. The aircraft, which was conducting a routine test flight as part of a radar modernization program, burst into flames after going down around 11:20 a.m. local time. The victims included military personnel, government civilians and contractors, with Boeing confirming that two of its employees were among those killed.
